For a first journal, use 2 mm grey board wrapped in upcycled cotton or book cloth. It lies flat, is forgiving of small glue slips, and wears in instead of out.
Do you sell book cloth or buckram?
Yes — we sell a cotton book cloth (upcycled sari cotton), a traditional buckram for rigid covers, and a leather-look cotton canvas. Each lists width, weight, and ideal binding style.
Can I use saree fabric as a book cover?
That is exactly where our upcycled cloth comes from — old sarees paper-backed and finished into book cloth. You can send us your own saree for made-to-order covers too.
What thickness of grey board do you recommend?
For A5 and A6 journals, 2 mm board is the sweet spot: firm without being heavy. Go to 2.5–3 mm for larger sketchbooks where weight matters less than stiffness.
