Spools are restocking. Meanwhile, start with paper or a kit.
Frequently asked questions
What thread works for Coptic binding?
Use a 3-ply waxed linen or heavy waxed cotton, roughly 0.5–0.7 mm thick. It grips the knot and sits flat on an exposed spine without sawing through the signatures.
How much thread do I need for one journal?
A rough rule: spine height × (signatures + 2). For a 5-signature A5 Coptic journal that is about 1.5 metres. Our thread ships in 10-metre and 25-metre spools.
Waxed or unwaxed — which should I pick?
Pre-waxed is kinder to beginners: it holds knots, slips through paper cleanly, and does not tangle. Unwaxed is for advanced bookbinders who want to control the wax themselves.
Can I dye your natural cotton thread?
Yes — our undyed natural cotton is safe for cold dyes. Waxed linen already has a coating and resists dye, so pick colour at the spool.
